A crash at an in-game time, a failure before the title screen and low frame rate during play are different observations. Record which one you see, whether it happens every time and whether the same save reproduces it.
If “midnight” is the trigger, note the location and last action as well as the time. That makes a report more useful than assuming every crash with a similar time has the same cause. These are diagnostic suggestions, not a confirmed game-specific repair.

Verify the Steam installation
Steam Support recommends restarting first. In the Library, open the game’s Properties, choose Installed Files and run “Verify integrity of game files.” Let the process finish before testing again.
Avoid running several verification tasks or other disk-heavy work at the same time. If files are repaired, repeat the original action once and record the result. Verification can check installation data; it does not prove a particular gameplay bug has been fixed.

Compare your machine with the requirements on the official store page. Check Windows and graphics drivers using their official update tools. Close unnecessary applications before repeating the same scene, so the comparison is meaningful.
Change one setting at a time and note the result. Do not delete saves, install an unknown “FPS fix,” or treat an unrelated Steam forum post as evidence for this game. If the issue persists on a supported configuration, take the observations to the developer.
